Elon Musk has recently stepped down from OpenAI, a research group on ethical applications of AI that he co-founded in 2015. OpenAI cited a desire to avoid any conflict of interest for Musk between the group and his car company Tesla, which has begun its own research into AI tech. Musk, who previously described AI as “humanity’s biggest existential threat,” will continue to advise and donate to OpenAI after his departure. OpenAI also recently contributed to the Malicious Use of Artificial Intelligence report, which outlines threat scenarios regarding rogue or hijacked AI.
AIWS shares OpenAI’s mission to ensure that AI becomes safe and beneficial for humanity. To that end, in April, we will announce a new Ethical Framework for AI at our annual BGF-G7 Summit, which will outline responsible and benevolent uses of Artificial Intelligence.
