President Lee Jae Myung of South Korea convened an AI summit at The Midway in San Francisco on Friday and unveiled the San Francisco AI Declaration. The commitments around it were extraordinary: an initiative exceeding 500 billion dollars from Nvidia and SK Group, and a two-gigawatt data center due online in 2027.
Three of the leaders present — Jensen Huang, Sam Altman, and Dario Amodei — were named in the America at 250: AI Pioneers honors announced by the Boston Global Forum at Harvard on May 1. Less than three months later, they were in San Francisco not as guests of a state occasion, but as principals.
President Lee described something else as well: a universal AI society, in which no one is left behind. This week’s analysis asks whether that half will be built as seriously as the supply chain.
