China is leading in the manufacture of robots worldwide

A report by International Federation of Robotics shows that over a third of industrial robots last year were installed by China. This nation is investing much more heavily in automation than the U.S.  And while the U.S is assumed to be the leading country in AI industry, since most of the modern technologies originated from Silicon Valley, the same is not entirely true when it comes to robot manufacturing.

In 2017, 380,000 industrial bots were sold, a 29% increase in sales over the prior year. At the same time, China had an enormous increase by 58% in industrial robots (robotic systems used for manufacturing) and installed 138,000 bots. This number accounted for a third of the robots sold worldwide, and showed that China in particular and Asia in general are starting to create a foundation for robot metal —a branch of AI —at an extremely fast pace.

This development carries potential benefits and risks. Hence, it is essential to come up with ethical standards for this advancement. MDI is currently working on AIWS 7-Layer Model to ensure the future of AI is for the good of humans.
